It all started when…
I was first drawn to photography in high school. I took as many photography classes as I could. That is where I learned the basics of exposure and composition. There I also learned how to process film and make my own prints in the darkroom. My family even had a makeshift darkroom in a bathroom using an old Agfa black and white enlarger. I upgraded to digital after my kids were born. Once they started to get involved in their chosen activities I really dove into photography. I have always been an athlete and continue to play hockey today so sports have always been a big part of my life. Sports and photography collided when my kids started to live at the gym and dance studio. From there I grew to love shooting weddings, events and real estate.
A lot of photographers specialize in one or two genres. I believe being able to shoot multiple genres well, makes a more complete photographer. It’s one thing to be able to shoot a great portrait. It’s something different to be able to shoot a great portrait in a well lit beautiful space to create a more accurate or dramatic representation of the image that is in your memories. Shooting sports has taught me how to quickly anticipate, react, change settings and be ready for the perfect shot. It all works together to help create beautiful images.
